SEOUL - North Korea criticised on Tuesday the US plan to rejoin the UN cultural agency Unesco as a “sinister” move to use an international organisation for the purpose of “realising the strategy for hegemony”.

“Clear is the sinister intention of the US hastening the reentry into the organisation... The US has an inglorious background of having withdrawn not only from Unesco but also from WHO, the UN Human Rights Council and other international organisations,” a statement released by North Korea’s permanent mission to Unesco said.
