The netizen said it was said in a moment of anger.

6 Sep – A Chinese netizen recently released a handwritten note apologising to Gillian Chung and husband Michael Lai for accusing him of cheating on her.

As reported on Tencent, a few hours after the couple issued a statement saying that they have the right to sue for defamation, a netizen using the Weibo handle TanGuo posted a handwritten note saying that he or she was sorry for the whole incident, and that it was said in a moment of anger. The netizen also stated that he or she never thought that the allegation would turn viral as it was never the intention, adding that he or she even asked for the reports to be deleted, but was ignored.

"I sincerely apologised for the damage caused towards Mr. Michael Lai and Ms. Gillian Chung. These remarks are wrong, and I am sorry for the adverse effects and implications caused to them. I have learned my lesson and will be cautious in the future," the netizen added. Previously, it was alleged that Michael had cheated on Gillian with a social media influencer known as Zhao Ningning. Both parties have denied the rumours.
