NEA seeking public feedback on proposal for supermarkets to charge for plastic bags from next year

SINGAPORE: The National Environment Agency is seeking public feedback on plans for supermarkets to charge consumers for plastic bags, including a proposal for it to be implemented in the first half of next year.

As customers do not have the option of using their own bags for online grocery orders and have little say on the number of bags used to package the products, no charge is proposed for such purchases, said the consultation paper. The agency said that in developing the proposals, it consulted more than 1,000 stakeholders through platforms such as focus group discussions, as well as industry and public consultation sessions.

Charge for the third bag onwards per customer, not for the first two.

ALL NEA employees should also not be allowed to drive or use private vehicles. They should only utilise bus or trains. After all, they should set the best example in saving the environment!

What happen if customers opt for home delivery?

Another NEA initiative to a “FINE CITY”!

To save environment, remove all aircon from NEA building and this can help improve air quality!

Pure BS. Paid these people so much money yet they can only solve the problem by charging these very same people who paid them.. As the saying goes, “if money can solve the problem, then it is a punishment to the poor.”

Can we substitute with low cost biodegradable plastic bags? Sadly so called recyclable bags are also not environmentally friendly.

Part of the reason why tote bags, used in lieu of plastic bags, are not useful as impromptu purchases means they are usually not big enough. Possibly allow a “returnable”policy for used totes might contribute to lower plastic bag wastage.

20cents ..crazy prize🤑

Instead of adding burden to the community focus should actually be put on corporate and SME as they are the main culprit

Those who bother to write and feedback are usually well to do and can afford the 10cent..
