A man who threw a knife that hit the right cheek of a police officer at Bukit Batok West Avenue 8 will be charged.

SINGAPORE — A man who threw a knife that hit the right cheek of a police officer at Bukit Batok West Avenue 8 will be charged on Wednesday .

The officer was responding along with his colleagues to a call for help on Monday as the man was allegedly armed with a knife shouting and looking for someone at the location. While the man was being arrested, he purportedly pulled out the knife from underneath his t-shirt and threw it at the officer.

The police seized the knife and five other knives at the man’s residence. “Preliminary investigations do not suggest the incident to be an act of terror,” the police said in a statement. The man will be charged with the offence of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty and possession of an offensive weapon. A person who is convicted of the first offence faces a jail term of up to seven years, a fine or caning, while the second offence carries a jail term of up to three years and caning of at least six strokes.
