KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Friday defended his 20-month-old government, saying it is wrong to say the Pakatan Harapan administration is"directionless".
Dr Mahathir's explanation comes amid complaints from the public and opposition parties that the four-party PH coalition has failed to fulfil most of its election promises and reduce the rising cost of living. His predecessor Najib Razak is facing multiple charges in Malaysia's courts for criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering linked to state fund 1MDB.
Dr Mahathir, who was previously prime minister for 22 years until 2003, pointed out that the PH government, which won power in 2018, has been able to retain the solvency of the country despite a huge debt, and maintain large Bank Negara reserves, as well as foreign assets.
