TOKYO : Japan's core consumer inflation likely re-accelerated in April, a Reuters poll of 19 economists showed, as a flurry of retail price hikes offset the effect of the government's energy subsidies.

Japan's core consumer price index , which excludes fresh food but includes energy items, likely grew 3.4 per cent in April from a year earlier, the poll showed. The pace would step up from 3.1 per cent seen in both March and February, and mark the fastest growth since a 41-year-high of 4.2 per cent logged in January.
