Work was once life. And then life revolved around a newborn baby. But adjusting to this was not easy.

I went from KPIs, page views and writing social media blurbs to pumping milk in the middle of the night for a screaming boss – my baby. But it was worth it.

But, of course, life often throws us curveballs, and I did not expect to meet the man I now call my husband. But now, the most important job I had was to keep my little one alive. And that seemed like a daunting prospect with no end in sight. Economist and author Emily Oster has said, “I think we’ve moved to thinking of parenting and pregnancy as something in which you should lose yourself... There’s this idea that people should drop everything for their child.”

Putting aside the societal cliche of “bouncing back”, I sought the help of a trusted psychiatrist at KKH’s Mental Wellness Service about three months after giving birth. Sitting in Dr Theresa Lee’s office, she held space for me as I cried, reflected, and asked her how I could find a new way of living in this season.
