TEL AVIV - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that he will apply Israeli sovereignty over the Jordan Valley, in the West Bank, if he wins next week's elections.

Netanyahu said that while he will wait for the presentation of the plan before doing so, he can immediately take such action in the Jordan Valley, which comes after months of diplomatic efforts. Ahead of the announcement, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh warned against such a move, saying that"the Palestinian territory is not part of Netanyahu's election campaign."

This year, as part of his election campaigns, Netanyahu has championed annexing Jewish settlements in the West Bank, which are regarded as illegal under international law by most of the world.
