JAKARTA: Indonesia is set to launch Southeast Asia's first high-speed railway on Monday (Oct 2), a delayed multibillion-dollar project backed by China that will cut travel between the capital Jakarta and another m

"We will launch it on Oct 2, because on Oct 1, the president is busy," Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi told reporters on Friday. It was built by PT KCIC, which is made up of four Indonesian state companies and Beijing's China Railway International. Authorities have been running public trials of the new high-speed journey of 142km before its opening.
