Indonesia's central bank will likely keep interest rates at record lows on Thursday, a Reuters poll showed, after its governor pledged to keep monetary policy accommodative for a while as inflation remains below target and COVID-19 cases rise.
All 26 economists in the poll unanimously expected Bank Indonesia to hold the benchmark interest rate at 3.50per cent for a fourth consecutive meeting.Many central banks around the world have already signalled moves to unwind their pandemic-era monetary stimulus amid the prospect of a U.S. Federal Reserve tapering.
Warjiyo has also said the central bank must be prepared for a potential tightening of U.S. monetary policy next year, warning such a move by the Fed could impact local financial markets.
