Sorry but that is a stupid question.Because once upon a time, the Elected President actually had real power. But what happened?
So, after curbing the president’s powers, the govt now asks if we want to give the president real power. We keep going round and round, like a dog chasing its own tail. One day the wind blows this way, we all lean this way. Next day the wind blows the other way, we lean the other way. How to have real power when one day he is appointed, then the next day he is elected; then he has real power; then those power are taken away; then he can be anyone, then he can only be a minority; then he must qualify with certain criteria; and then those criteria are changed; then now we want to revert him back to appointed president; but PM say he has to be elected.
If Ong Teng Cheong were alive today, he’d be laughing his teeth off at the clown show being played before us today.] Mr Ong gave, if you haven’t read it before. Mr Ong was the first Elected President with real power and who actually exercised those powers to get the govt to be accountable.
