Many stores and businesses have had to shut early due to metro closures, putting another burden on the city's faltering economy as it faces its first recession in a decade. Lam introduced the emergency laws, including the ban on face masks last week in an effort to quell unrest. Until the recent anti-mask laws, some of the rioters were quite brutal to the police too. When I imagined the rioters attacking other people's children, parents and siblings, it invalidates their moral claim.
