HONG KONG – In the seventh consecutive weekend of protests in Hong Kong, thousands of protesters gathered at Victoria Park on Sunday afternoon set off on a march to protest against a contentious extradition Bill that has been suspended indefinitely.
The Civil Human Rights Front, the organiser of some of the biggest demonstrations in the past six weeks, was also behind the rally that began at Victoria Park, in the popular shopping district Causeway Bay. The marchers will go through Causeway Road, Leighton Road, Irving Street, Pennington Street, Yee Wo Street and Hennessy Road to end in Wan Chai.
Hong Kong protesters marching on July 21, 2019 The protests were sparked by Chief Executive Carrie Lam’s move to amend existing legislation that will allow Hong Kong to send suspects to the mainland for trials. In anticipation of possible clashes, security at major government buildings has been beefed up over the weekend with giant water barriers surrounding the government headquarters in Admiralty and police headquarters in Wan Chai.On Saturday, three men aged between 25 and 27 were arrested in connection with the seizure of explosives, firebombs and other weapons in a industrial building in the Tsuen Wan district.
