Inbound travellers to Hong Kong will only need to undergo polymerase chain reaction tests on the first and third day of arrival from next Monday, as the city further relaxes Covid-19 screening rules for those entering the city.

Citing official data, she said 82 per cent of infected arrivals were detected via the first two PCR tests between Sept 26 and Nov 11, and only 0.4 and 0.1 per cent of infections were found in later tests. “We cannot be sure whether the travellers were infected locally or overseas if they were found positive on days 4 and 6. We believe it is more likely that they are infected locally than overseas.”[[nid:600671]]

Hong Kong residents are no longer required to have been vaccinated against Covid-19 to return to the city, but non-residents aged 12 years or older are still subject to the requirement.
