SINGAPORE - An initiative to pro-actively reach out to 50,000 low-income families living in rental flats will begin this month, to ensure no one falls through the cracks during the Covid-19 crisis.
Staff and volunteers will call - or even visit - some of these families over the next few months to check in on them and link them up to the help they need, Mr Lee said in a virtual interview. In the past two years, the SG Cares Community Network has brought together government agencies, social service agencies, grassroots and other groups to collaborateto better serve families in need.Its new approach will be a lot more proactive, given the scale of the crisis and the need to make the best use of resources to achieve maximum social impact, he added.
More than 720 professionals, such as counsellors and psychologists, have volunteered to man the hotline 24/7. An additional 383 staff have been deployed to the Social Service Offices to help in the administration of Government financial aid schemes, such as ComCare and Covid-19 help schemes. This is almost double the pre-Covid staff strength at the Social Service Offices.
