JOHANNESBURG : Nick Bachem surged away from the field on the back nine to win the Jonsson Workwear Open at Steyn City in Johannesburg on Sunday and record a maiden triumph on the European Tour.

The German, ranked 464th in the world and on his first full year on the tour, finished four shots clear of the field after shooting a final round 64 for a total of 264. Home golfers Hennie du Plessis and Zander Lombard finished second on 268 with Scotland’s Ewen Ferguson and South Africa’s Ockie Strydom one shot further back in a tie for fourth. The 23-year-old, who went into the tournament testing a new driver, had led at the halfway stage of the tournament but was one shot behind compatriot Alexander Knappe after Saturday’s third round.

The overnight leader fell out of contention as he dropped four shots in the space of five holes to slide down the leaderboard and finish tied 13th. Malaysia's Gavin Green had also been in a share of the lead early on Sunday but was undone by back-to-back double bogeys and tied for sixth place.

France to ban TikTok on work phones of civil servants: French ministerPARIS – France will ban the use of Chinese-owned video-sharing app TikTok on the work phones of civil servants, Civil Service Minister Stanislas Guerini said on his Twitter account. “In order to guarantee the cybersecurity of our administrations and civil servants, the government has decided to ban recreational applications such as TikTok on the professional phones of civil servants,” he said in a statement. He added that for several weeks, several of France’s European and international partners have adopted measures to restrict or ban the downloading and installation of the TikTok application by their administrations. Mr Guerini said recreational applications do not have sufficient levels of cybersecurity and data protection to be deployed on administration’s equipment, adding that the ban is effective immediately and that government services will monitor compliance. He said that, exceptionally, exemptions can be given for professional reasons, such as institutional communication of an administration. A string of Western governments and institutions have banned TikTok in recent weeks, including the UK parliament, the Dutch and Belgian administrations and the New Zealand parliament. Late last month, the European Union’s two biggest policy-making institutions – the Commission and the Council - banned TikTok from staff phones for cybersecurity reasons. Concerns have mounted globally about the potential for the Chinese government to access users’ location and contact data through ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company.
