In 2010, Mr Chew went to Harvard Business School to study for an MBA and interned at Facebook when the social media platform was still a start-up. Facebook went public in mid-2012.In March 2021, Mr Chew joined TikTok parent company, China-based ByteDance, as its first chief financial officer . Mr Chew runs TikTok from his Singapore office at One Raffles Quay, but he travels frequently, especially to the US.

At DST Global, Mr Chew led a team that became early investors in ByteDance in 2013. He also spent two years working as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs.
