SINGAPORE - An Islamic religious teacher told his female student that she was a victim of black magic and molested the woman in a mosque while trying to"cure" her.

The 36-year-old victim was a family friend and their families had known each other for more than 10 years. He also suggested that this was the cause of her inability to conceive despite being married for nine years. He then inspected her arms and said her veins were blocked. After the class ended, the victim, who was still trying to make sense of what had happened, went to a homeopathy clinic for a second opinion on whether she was a victim of"black magic".On Thursday, defence lawyer Gino Hardial Singh pleaded for his client to be sentenced to not more than 11 months' jail, stressing that the elderly man had a range of ailments including diabetes.
