SINGAPORE - Changi General Hospital has launched an enhanced version of a mobile app developed by its nurses to help them communicate with patients in Cantonese, Hokkien and Malay.

It also displays images or photographs so that patients could understand the nurses. For example, if a nurse selects the phrase"I will give you an injection on your arm," the app will show an image of an injection being administered. Addressing some 300 nurses and healthcare professionals from around the world at a gala dinner on Saturday, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said the app has been used in pilot programmes and patients have shown positive responses.

The team worked with the CGH Office of Innovation to develop the app. When it was piloted in 2014, it had just 100 stock phrases in Cantonese.
