I think we should not use old procedure to validate a new strain because if this new strain is high virulent and highly transmissable, than using the old rule of the thumb to wait 1-2 weeks may not be wise..anyway I am not an expert just saying this as a layman.
Obviously there's a time lag due to the incubation period of the virus...
