Dyson drops Singapore electric car project, shuts automotive division.

HOME appliance giant Dyson has scrapped its entire automotive division, including its plan for an electric car plant in Singapore, the British firm announced on Thursday.

"Though we have tried very hard throughout the development process, we simply can no longer see a way to make it commercially viable. We have been through a serious process to find a buyer for the project which has, unfortunately, been unsuccessful so far," he said in an email to staff on Thursday. Mr Tan added:"As Dyson's decision not to pursue the electric vehicle business was taken at an early stage, the disruption to its operations and workforce in Singapore will be minimal. Singapore and Dyson have enjoyed a strong partnership for more than 10 years and we look forward to building on this partnership."

"Our battery will benefit Dyson in a profound way and take us in exciting new directions. In summary, our investment appetite is undiminished and we will continue to deepen our roots in both the UK and Singapore."
