SEOUL - South Korean officials are stepping up efforts to ensure locals stick to social distancing guidelines during Halloween, warning this year's party"could really turn scary" as it tries to avoid another resurgence in coronavirus infections.

South Korea has been praised for quick and effective action against the pandemic, but saw a resurgence in cases in May after an outbreak linked to nightclubs and bars in Seoul. Some 14 nightclubs have already been shut after failing to adhere to social distancing guidelines and for having more people than are allowed at nightclubs, Ms Park said.
