Saka at the double as dynamic England hit Iran for six

DOHA: They used mist machines to cope with the midday sun in the lead-up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but it was England who brought the heat and kept their cool on Monday as they hammered Iran 6-2.

England immediately took the game to their opponents and Harry Maguire looked to have been bundled over in the box by Rouzbeh Cheshmi, but no penalty was given. However, Beiranvand clashed heads with a teammate in the process and had to be substituted after a substantial delay. England doubled their lead in first half added time as Arsenal midfielder Bukayo Saka rifled a swerving volley into the back of the net after another well-won header by Maguire.

Iran refused to throw in the towel and would get a brilliant consolation soon after as Mehdi Taremi ghosted in behind Maguire and hammered home in off the crossbar.
