The Ambani family, which owns conglomerate Reliance Industries, launched the 1,214ha zoo and animal rescue sanctuary on Feb 26. The zoo is also facing allegations of illegal transfer of forest elephants from different parts of India and undue influence on state zoos. There is also scrutiny of India’s wildlife authorities.The zoo’s master layout plan shows enclosures for a wide variety of species, including Asian elephant, African lion, Bengal tiger and crocodile.
