JUST IN – COVID-19: New record of 287 cases, mostly linked to foreign worker dormitories

SINGAPORE — Singapore on Thursday confirmed an additional 287 cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 1,910.

Associate Professor Mak noted that many of the cases started from a cluster at Mustafa Centre, a shopping mall popular with South Asian workers. “We believe that the workers had visited Mustafa, and they subsequently transmitted the infection to their co-workers, either at a Project Glory construction site, or to other residents within the dormitories that they lived in.”

Only essential services like food establishments, markets and supermarkets, transport, and key banking services will remain open during the month-long closure. Patients who flout their five-day medical leave can face steep penalties such as a fine of up to $10,000 or a maximum jail term of six months, or both, according to the MOH’s latest updates to the Infectious Diseases Act.
