A communicable diseases expert said there was “limited” risk of foreign domestic helpers bringing Covid-19 into Hong Kong on Monday, just hours before the city confirmed five new imported infections, including a domestic worker from Indonesia.

While it was not mandatory to designate quarantine hotels specifically for those workers, narrowing them to just one or two would help with ventilation control and contact tracing in case infected cases got through, Tsang said.Earlier this month, officials announced that helpers from both countries, which the government classified as being in the highest-risk category, would be able to return if they had been vaccinated in Hong Kong. But all must quarantine for 21 days on their return.

But uncertainties lay ahead, Chan said, because vaccinated workers in the Philippines, for instance, faced delays in getting a vaccination certificate issued by the state government.
