SINGAPORE - Politicians and supermarket chain representatives on Friday called shoppers to remain calm, saying Singapore has sufficient stocks of essential supplies and food.
Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing in a Facebook post gave his assurance that Singapore’s supply lines for essential supplies like rice and instant noodles are intact. Under the Disease Outbreak Response System Condition or Dorscon, Orange means the outbreak is deemed to have moderate to high public health impact.
Mr Seah Kian Peng, chief executive of supermarket chain FairPrice, said there was a surge and some panic buying of food and groceries at its physical and online stores, resulting in some shelves to be empty as a result.Mr Seah said: “We have stocks and they are being replenished from our warehouse but if everyone starts to buy a lot more than what they need, there will never be enough. Hence I hope we all stay calm and not get into this mode and behaviour.
“Currently, we have sufficient inventory in Singapore for food supplies and toiletries to meet customers’ usual daily needs,” she said “Customers do not need to overpurchase on groceries and necessities. Our sources of supply are well-diversified and we will continue to work closely with our suppliers.
Still, in the event of any food supply disruptions caused by the outbreak, Singapore’s food supply is unlikely to be affected, as Singapore imports its food from more than 170 countries.

Whenever there is a national crisis ntuc is the first to run out of stock.
Please lah Singaporean don't kia su until like that man stupid
7 new cases, no need to worry. 70 new cases, also no need to worry. 700 new cases, ok maybe it’s time to worry. 7,000 new cases, ok but too late to worry.
NTUC better bring in Lysol spray. Why no stock for so long? Please wake up
So those viral & mobile shares of empty shelves, funny photos of woman w/ plastic shower cap on hair & face mask in Singapore are true? Apocalyptic much? End of the world?! Lol! 🤣🍊🍊😷😹 coronavirus Singapore nCoV19 SaturdayThoughts SaturdayMorning coronavirussingapore
PAP Govt raised the dorcon level to orange has created the unnecessary panic in Singaporean stocking up rice and other items. Their way of governance is way below standard. Next round of election will see them losing votes from the people. They better don’t create panic in spore.
It shows the trust level toward the government though.
Proofing how selfish s'ngporeans
A First World Country should show a good example to the world.
Well deserved for stupidity and negligence you have single handedly destroyed everyone else’s freedom. No sense of hygiene and common sense whatsoever. Doesn’t matter where your from, China, singapore, Indonesia same dirty habits and wherever you move to you take it with you.
This actually makes me very sad to be honest.🥺Don’t be so so selfish. Give others a chance to buy as well. 😢
In America, the CEO would probably encourage it to get the share price higher, to be fair
And I thought Fairprice was crowded coz perhaps last of CNY celebrations coming up over weekend! Duh! Walked out without buying anything, looking at the long queues at checkout. p. s : Just wanted to buy milk, nothing more.
1st real test if singapore 3rd gen leaders to maintain confidence
Influenzers using alarmist language like this doesn't help the situation -- 'Wiping out basic supplies at supermarkets...' Really? They're all gone? Nothing left. Did u visit all supermarkets in SG to confirm this? Irresponsible! SingaporeMCI
I don’t get why everyone is surprised by this. You did see all the people wearing masks when it was just DORSCON Yellow right? It’s these same people who are hoarding now.
All these behaviours actually help the virus to spread to more people since the supermarket is crowded, if there is virus carrier amongst the crowd. 😔
I m care giver. I cannot buy online now too.. I not convenient to go out buy.. It's bad situation for me if people chaotic buying.😢
It's weird, they created their own crowd that is not suggested? And even though they did bulk-buying, they will continue to go to school, work, take public transport etc...
Can't really blame the consumer to be panic and kiasu. Previously the government and retailers said enough mask for everyone to go through the crisis but now masks sold out and the price is 4-6 times compare to month ago.
Boomers.
