SINGAPORE - Those who have been financially affected by the coronavirus outbreak through losing their jobs or income will be able to apply for a one-time cash assistance of $500 from April 1.

Those who face challenges in finding new employment because of the pandemic can also apply for the Covid-19 Support Grant, which will provide longer-term financial assistance and job support. The two financial assistance schemes were part of a slate of measures in a supplementary Budget announced by Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat on Thursday to help Singapore cope with the coronavirus pandemic. The landmark $48.4 billion Resilience Budget comes on top of the $6.4 billion package that was announced about a month ago to cushion the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

MSF also said that while household income is considered as part of the eligibility criteria for the assistance schemes, more than one eligible individual from the same household can get help from the Covid-19 Support Grant. "If ComCare clients require more assistance due to changes in financial circumstances, SSO will work with them to review their assistance package," said the ministry.
