SINGAPORE - Some healthy migrant workers will be housed at unused void decks and multi-storey carparks at different sites where projects are under construction, the Housing Board said on Saturday .

HDB contractors will temporarily house the workers at these places, which the Board described as"completed structures that are safe and liveable". "This will help to improve safe distancing by spreading out our workers, who are today living in workers' quarters on site," HDB said in a Facebook post. All the premises are checked to ensure that living conditions are airy and comfortable, and equipped with toilets, charging points and Wi-Fi connection."The health and safety of everyone are of utmost importance," it said in the post.

The board added that safe distancing measures, such as no visitation to other levels and temperature screening twice a day, have also been put in place at the sites. The workers will be staying within the site and only designated workers are allowed to leave the site to buy essentials from nearby grocery stores.

Wow void deck n carpark... how sad,,

Seriously? Since sch is closed, can open up let them sleep in classrooms...

Seriously? Some ministers said the wellbeing of the foreign workers is top priority? If not enough resources, what have the manpower minister been doing before the dormitories become a disaster, besides the rhetoric?

Calm down people. We're talking about 20 000 people, they will be placed at sites that still under construction! Anyone can suggest better solution?!

Its about managing thousands of workers, the immediate segregation, the 3 meals... if anyone can do it better - HELP the government🙏🏻

Lame excuses that there are not enough spaces. Many empty apartments can be used to house these workers. What about empty hotels? Why can’t they stay at hotel?

There are school buildings that are vacant after school mergers, they could be a better place to house them instead of carparks

wow must be hard to think of them as human beings

We’re running out of resources 😟

There should be more decent spaces than void decks, no?

any spare decency for migrant workers?

At car park? And without a mattress? Please consider them as a human being also Singapore . They are the one who build your nation/building/infrastructure etc.

What happened to their employers ?

Treating them little better than sheep

Open air is better for prevention of virus spread, but staying in carpark and void deck?

What if there’s heavy rain or strong wind, the workers will fall ill easily. I wonder if they need to visit the ‘toilet’ for pee, poo and shower. R there enough mobile toilets avail for them? If not, the mobile toilets will get dirty very quickly. It’s a hygiene issue too.

At car parks
