BEIJING : Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD Co Ltd posted a 29.41per cent drop in first-half profit on Friday and warned about challenges from rising commodity and raw material prices.

The Shenzhen-based company, backed by U.S. investor Warren Buffett and whose products include battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, posted net profit of 1.17 billion yuan , down from 1.66 billion yuan in the same period a year earlier.
