China says it fully supports HongKong leader CarrieLam

BEIJING - China's central government fully supports Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam and the Hong Kong government to use all lawful means to put an end to violent protests, a spokeswoman said on Tuesday .

Ms Xu added that Hong Kong’s status as a Chinese territory is not up for discussion and Beijing will not sit idly by if the situation there endangers national security. In response to the leaked recording, Mrs Lam said on Tuesday she has never asked the Chinese government to let her resign to end the city’s political crisis.

Mrs Lam, a lightning rod for protesters’ anger, told a televised news conference on Tuesday that she had never considered asking to resign and that Beijing believed her government could solve the three-months long crisis without mainland China’s intervention.
