TOKYO : Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Masazumi Wakatabe said on Wednesday the central bank must maintain its"powerful" monetary easing to sustain an environment where wages can rise more.

In a speech, he also said Japan's current cost-push inflation must be dealt with by means other than monetary policy such as fiscal spending and an energy policy that reduces Japan's reliance on fuel imports.
