More blood is still needed, however, as the stocks for all blood types are still not at healthy levels yet, he added. More than 1,700 donors - representing all blood groups - stepped forward to donate their blood over the past four days, said Mr Ong said in a Facebook post. “This is a 45 per cent increase from our usual collection – a strong sign of unity and support from everyone,” he said.

However, he added that blood stocks are “not at healthy levels yet”, with those for the negative blood groups such as A-, B-, O- and AB- “currently running low”.In his post last week, Mr Ong said that stocks of A+ and O+ blood were running low and that major elective surgeries requiring those two blood units were at risk of being postponed.
