Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Amy Khor said in Parliament on March 2 that the bag charge will apply to supermarket operators with an annual turnover of more than S$100 million. Mr Kannan added that customers, many of whom are regulars, may be unhappy if they have to start forking out additional money for a bag.Mr Alex Wu, who runs several minimarts including Best Supermart at Serangoon, also said that it is unlikely that he will charge customers for plastic bags as he feels that it may affect his business.

Mr Ah Pao, the owner of Heng’s Family Minimart at Hougang, said that he charges 10 cents per bag for those who request plastic bags without purchasing anything from his store.In response to TODAY’s queries, Singapore Minimart Association chairman Alan Tay said that its 82 members
