The police did not directly address the question of why the announcements had been introduced at this time, although cases of voyeurism rose last year, with a slight uptick of cases on public transport. In a HardwareZone forum, a thread titled:"How come MRT station must announce that upskirt is an offence?” surfaced on Apr 21.One user suggested that it was an indirect way of telling tourists that molestation and taking upskirt photos may occur on the MRT.Concerns over crimes on public transport, such as molestation and taking of up-skirt images, have resurfaced in Singapore, says Minister of State for Home Affairs Faishal Ibrahim.
“We would like to remind members of the public that molestation and taking of upskirt photos/videos are serious offences,” the police said on Tuesday .
