SINGAPORE — Mr Ahmad Syatibi books a car-sharing vehicle once or twice every month to run errands but while he finds such cars convenient, the university undergraduate has become increasingly concerned about the cleanliness and maintenance of such vehicles.
Last year, another viral video showed a BlueSG car crashing into a road divider, though no injuries were reported.Road safety experts and academics whom TODAY spoke to said that more critical studies are needed to understand the effects of car-sharing on road safety in Singapore, but at least one expert said there is evidence based on studies overseas that car-sharing does indeed cause more traffic accidents.
He added that there is also what seems to be a lack of checks for who is actually behind the wheel of such car-sharing vehicles. According to the Land Transport Authority's regulatory framework for the point-to-point sector, car-sharing vehicles fall under the same purview as self-drive private hire cars.
Prof Walter pointed out however that it is also possible that the visibility of car-sharing brands has led to the impression that car-sharing vehicles are more prone to accidents. Dr Bansal said that some users he has encountered have complained about the lack of cleanliness and maintenance of these cars, which can be a factor affecting accident rates.
Drivelah also said that hygiene and maintenance is not an issue on its platform as it rents out personally owned cars.
One thing i know...car sharing is for ppl who just got license and no $$to buy car and like to take for a crazy spin
Accidents come and go, it's normal
Blue sg drivers are arrogant. They thought they own the roads. Drive recklessly and speeding.
How often does a renter drive? When's the last time they drove? What's their experience with ev? I tried to stay clear of any rental car on the road, period
One of the negative feedbacks from users of car-sharing/rental scheme is the interior of cars is dirty. Many Singaporeans/ residents here do not have good social etiquette in public spaces or care for things that are not theirs. Just look at the littering and public dirty toilets
Experts are well paid ..
Those bluesg cars are racing down the road like they are being charged a million dollars per minute. Bluesg should set a speed limit to their car. Perhaps top speed at full throttle should not exceed 90.
Some reasons such as drivers are not familair with the rental vehicles; inexperience drivers or vehicle malfunction. If you found poor maintenance, any issues, should not accept the vehicle, or handle it with care. That's my view.
