The 15-year-old knows the road ahead is not easy, but she has her biggest fan onboard - her mum.

Ms Milona Xia taking videos of her daughter, Joye Cai, who is taking intensive dance classes to prepare for her move to Seoul to join Evergreen Korea agency as a K-pop trainee.

The 15-year-old St Joseph’s Institution International student is receiving intensive, one-on-one dance training to prepare for the next chapter of her life. In South Korea, Joye will have to dedicate at least the next two years of her life to becoming an elite K-pop idol. She is married to a businessman in the finance industry and they provide Joye and her two younger brothers, aged 14 and one, with a comfortable life. Joye grew up with private music lessons in guzheng, violin and piano, with a chauffeur driving her around and having lavish themed birthday parties thrown for her.

Mr Yong, who offered Joye a trainee contract, has high hopes for her and believes she can mount a successful debut if she works hard. While Ms Xia is her daughter’s biggest fan, she says she was not initially enthused about packing her off to South Korea. But Ms Xia was eventually won over by Joye’s love for the stage. Conversations with Mr Yong also convinced her that he was serious about cultivating Joye’s entertainment career. Eventually, Ms Xia backed Joye in family meetings with her father and grandparents and persuaded them to let Joye become a K-pop trainee.
