Uncertainty after ruling ANC party loses its 30-year majority

South Africa has a 30-year history of democratic rule under five elected ANC presidents, but has never previously seen the party fail to win an absolute majority CAPE TOWN: South Africa's election has decided little, other than the African National Congress that liberated the country from apartheid in 1994 has lost its 30-year majority.

Here's a guide to some of the key figures and what might be coming next as South Africa enters uncharted territory. Former South African President Jacob Zuma gestures after voting during the South African elections, in Nkandla, South Africa May 29, 2024. Zuma, who is 82, was the wildcard of this election after only announcing his political comeback in December.
