The consortium's goal is to build the largest enterprise AI supercomputer in Sweden, once it becomes operational.
A Swedish business consortium has joined hands with NVIDIA to build new artificial intelligence infrastructure to help the industries. The business consortium includes industry giants such as AstraZeneca, Ericsson, Saab , SEB, in partnership with Wallenberg Investments.
The AI factory will be operated by a joint company that will offer secure, sovereign compute access to the industry partners. As per the plans announced by the consortium, the first phase of the deployment will be two NVIDIA DGX SuperPODs featuring NVIDIA’s latest generation Grace Blackwell GB300 systems. This will make it the largest enterprise AI supercomputer in Sweden, once it becomes operational.“Investing in cutting-edge AI infrastructure is a crucial step toward accelerating the development and adoption of AI across Swedish industry. We believe this initiative will generate valuable spillover effects—by enabling upskilling, fostering new collaborations, and strengthening the broader national AI ecosystem,” said Marcus Wallenberg, Chair of Wallenberg Investments.NVIDIA’s plans for Sweden’s AI supercomputerThe supercomputer will run compute-heavy AI workloads to speed up processes such as training of domain-specific AI models and large-scale inference, including reasoning AI.To support the goal, NVIDIA plans to establish its first AI Technology Center in Sweden to drive AI research with industry partners. It will also offer access to its experts and hands-on Deep Learning Institute training to upskill AI talent in the country. The project was addressed by NVIDIA Founder and CEO, Jensen Huang, in southern Sweden on May 24.“As electricity powered the industrial age and the Internet fueled the digital age, AI is the engine of the next industrial revolution,” Huang said. “Through the visionary initiative of Wallenberg Investments and Sweden’s industry leaders, the country is building its first AI infrastructure—laying the foundation for breakthroughs across science, industry, and society, and securing Sweden’s place at the forefront of the AI era.”The goal of the project is to help drive new AI innovation in Sweden by building competence across Swedish industries and fostering knowledge sharing. How the partners plan to use the AI factoryAccording to a press release by Wallenberg Investments, the various business partners in the consortium will use the supercomputer to meet their own needs.AstraZeneca will use the system to spearhead the next generation of AI-enabled drug discovery and development involving methods such as foundation model training, multi-model inference, and unique data processing capabilities.Apart from this, Ericsson will leverage its data science expertise to develop and deploy state-of-the-art AI models, improving performance and efficiency and enhancing customer experience. It will also help Ericsson to renew new business models and use cases for its end-users.Defense company Saab will deploy AI to accelerate the development of new state-of-the-art defense capabilities, combining advanced AI applications with Saab’s world-leading products and platforms.Similarly, banking firm SEBI plans to use AI as a central plan in its ambition to drive productivity enhancement, power new customer offerings, and future-proof the bank.On another note, a recent study by researchers pointed out that the next generation of AI supercomputers would be massive in size, cost, and power demand. The study’s authors say that by 2030, we may be able to see a single AI supercomputer with two million chips, costing $200 billion, and consuming nine gigawatts of power, roughly what nine nuclear reactors produce.
