The Salt Lake Art Museum, nestled within the historic B'nai Israel Temple in Salt Lake City, is set to make its debut in November 2025. The historic B'nai Israel Temple in Salt Lake City on Nov. 7, 2025 will be home to the newly opened Salt Lake Art Museum . The museum, designed to preserve Utah culture and provide a platform for local artists, is considered the first new art museum to open in the city in over 40 years.
The project was founded by Micah Christensen, a distinguished art historian, who contacted Chris Jensen, a museum executive with experience in nonprofits and cultural and historical preservation, to consider purchasing the temple for its conversion into an art museum. The museum aims to showcase both historic and contemporary Utah artists, highlighting their stories and fostering thoughtful conversations on modern topics.
The grand opening will take place on July 24, but the museum has already launched its interactive 'Make Your Mark' installation, capturing the voices and identities of the community in the lead-up to the grand opening
