He is attacking democracy itself.The election for new chief minister in Punjab Assembly was due to be held today with a tough competition is going to be held between PML-N nominee Hamza Shehbaz and PML-Q leader Ch Pervaiz Elahi.
There will be a neck-and-neck competition between Hamza and Pervaiz Elahi as both claim to have required number of MNAs with them. The PML-N claims that it enjoys support of 202 MPAs. and the strength of PML-Q members is 10. The ruling party claims that it enjoys support of 189 members. While 24 MPAs of PTI have defected to the opposition. The PTI dissidents including Jehangir Tareen group, Aleem Khan and Asad Khokhar have already announced their support for Hamza Shehbaz. On the other hand, the number of PML-N members in Punjab Assembly is 167 and strength of PPP MPAs is 7. Besides, one member of Rah-e-Haq and four independents have announced their support for Hamza. If both the contenders fail to achieve 186 votes, then there will be a second run.
Strict security arrangements have been made around the assembly building as Rangers and special commandoes have been deputed. Section 144 has been imposed around 500-metre limits.
