Two separate applications have been filed before the Islamabad High Court to restore the appeals against PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s sentence in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references of the National Accountability Bureau .The court announced the sentence in the Avenfield reference over Nawaz’s absence on July 6, 2018.
The petition maintains that the petitioner's wife was undergoing treatment in London and was on ventilator at that time. A delay in the pronouncement of the judgement was requested, which was not granted, it added. The sentence was pronounced in Nawaz Sharif’s absence and he came to Pakistan and faced jail as well as filed appeals against the verdict, the application stated.
The sentences of the co-accused, Maryam Nawaz and Capt Safdar, in the case were annulled. Due to the petitioner's non-appearance, his appeal was dismissed for non-compliance. The court had said that when he would surrender or is captured, the appeal could be filed again, the petition mentioned, adding that Nawaz Sharif could not be present to pursue the appeals due to his poor health.
Nawaz Sharif did not misuse the bail facility, the petition stated, adding that although he has still not fully recovered, he decided to return home.Nawaz Sharif’s medical reports have been submitted to the Lahore High Court on a regular basis, the application said.
