In response to conflicting reports, Energy Minister Awais Leghari clarified that the federal government has no plans to revoke solar net metering after the upcoming budget. As media reports stirred controversy, the current government considered proposing changes primarily to financial regulations, while net metering users preferred to keep the existing rules.
Federal Energy Minister Awais Ahmad Leghari dismissed the alarming media reports, emphasizing that the government would continue to support solar power. He noted that the policy was introduced by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in 2017 and that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif remains committed to it. Leghari reassured consumers who have already installed solar power and have net metering contracts with distribution companies that they would not be affected.He added that the government will continue to promote net metering and any policy changes will involve consultation with all stakeholders.
