Chinese Ex leader Hu Jintao Forced to out from Communist Party

China’s former president was abruptly escorted out of Saturday’s Communist Party Congress closing ceremony.

Hu spoke briefly with the male staff member while China’s third-most senior leader, Li Zhanshu, sat to his other side with his hand on the chair behind Hu’s back. Hu paused to speak to Xi and patted Premier Li Keqiang on the shoulder before leaving. Xi and Li nodded. Xi’s reply was unclear. The party is unlikely to provide a public justification for Hu’s abrupt departure because of the opaqueness of Chinese elite politics. The dramatic event hasn’t been mentioned in any Chinese media outlets or on social media, where such discussion is severely constrained. However, it has sparked a flurry of speculative activity elsewhere.
