Ban on film ‘Joy Land’ challenged in LHC

The ban on the screening of the film 'Joy land' in Punjab has been challenged in the Lahore High Court on Wednesday.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, an application was filed by a citizen of Lahore Ghulam Haider in the High court against the ban on screening of Joy land in Punjab, the admissibility of which was objected to by the HC Registrar office. The High Court then overruled the Registrar's office’s objection and directed to schedule the case for a hearing.

Justice Muzammil Akhtar Shabbir commenced the hearing on the application and Attorney General Haroon Mir appeared on behalf of the Federal Government. The Federal Government, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority Central Film Censor Board, and others were made parties in the application. The petitioner's counsel stated that a high-level committee in Islamabad approved the release of the film. The film was banned from screening in Punjab despite the issuance of all legal licenses for its screening and exhibition.

It was requested in the application that the court annuls the ban on the screening of the film in Punjab and it was further requested that the screening of the film be allowed till the final decision of the case in the province.
