SENATE President Juan Miguel 'Migz' Zubiri renewed on Labor Day his commitment to push the measure that would protect and advance the interests of workers nationwide.

Zubiri earlier filed Senate Bill 2002 or the proposed 'Across-the-Board Wage Increase Act of 2023' which seeks to raise wages in the private sector in all regions by P150.He said the National Capital Region has the highest daily nominal wage rate, at P570 , while the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has the lowest at P316 for non-agriculture workers.Regional wage boards set the minimum wage in regions.

''We must also recognize the rights and welfare of workers in the informal sector, of which comprise the biggest number of the labor force and yet, they lack secured employment contracts, benefits and social protections unlike those in the formal economy who are covered by the Labor Code,' she said.Zubiri cited the 8.7 percent inflation rate at the start of the year, the highest in 14 years.
