The government is optimistic that it will achieve a lower record of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases than the computations made in recent academic studies predicting that the Philippines will have around 60,000 active cases by July 31.

In a Laging Handa press briefing on Monday, Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr., chief implementer of the National Task Force COVID-19, expressed readiness to prove the studies made by the University of the Philippines and University of Santo Tomas wrong.According to the reported studies, the country is poised to have 60,000 cases by the end of July if the estimated reproductive number of the virus remains at 1.28.

The current record was close to the prediction made earlier by a separate UP study which showed that the country will have 40,000 cases by end of June. “Ang ginagawa namin, binabasa natin ang data ng UP at ang ibang studies. Lahat ng data at mga pag-aaral na pwedeng makatulong sa aming paggawa ng mga plano, tinitignan po namin ,” he said.

He said it includes among others the repatriation of thousands of Overseas Filipino Workers from various countries with COVID-19 infections, and the transport of locally stranded individuals from Metro Manila to their home provinces in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

WHICH ONES? HOW? Pls provide a clear vision of what we intend to achieve -- in the short term to address current spikes/surges AND in the long term to ensure sustainable/streamlined programs among national departments/LGUs. Also, I would want to beat C-19, not those predictions.
