Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon on Thursday said he is now prepared to retire from public service when he finishes his second consecutive six-year term in the Senate this year.

“I have been in politics, in government service for over three decades. I am proud of my record. I can stand on it and I have protected our family’s name,” Drilon said in an interview on ANC’s Headstart.

“It’s about time we should know when to quit,” Drilon said when asked why he chooses not to run in the upcoming May 2022 elections. “I’m proud of what I have done. And let’s give others a chance who have new ideas. That’s how we institutionalize our democratic system,” he said.‘We cannot be highly dominated by a single personality. That’s why I have pushed for the anti-dynasty bill in Congress,” he said.Drilon earlier decliend to be the Liberal Party’s standard bearer in the 2022 elections.

Asked what he plans to do during his retirement, Drilon said he plans to “dabble a bit” in the private sector and will also continue to comment on public issues.
