Tourists were temporarily barred from visiting the Wawa Dam in Rizal due to the ongoing pursuit operations by government forces against alleged communist rebels, the Montalban local government announced on Sunday.

In an advisory, the Montalban LGU said its mountain barangays, namely Puray, Mascap, and Macabud, including Sitio Wawa in Barangay San Rafael, were closed to tourist visits until further notice.

The government troops and alleged NPA gunmen had an encounter on Friday, Luisito Santos reported on Super Radyo dzBB.The number of casualties on the side of the NPA was still being determined.
