CORONAVIRUS infections accelerated further, with the Department of Health recording 380 cases in the last 24 hours to bring the total count past 15,000.As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, the total number of confirmed cases of infection increased to 15,049, including 904 mortalities and 3,506 recoveries.The 380 new cases exceeded Tuesday’s count of 350. For the month of May so far, this is the highest number of cases over a period of 24 hours.

Initially, she said this may be attributed to the new cases among repatriated overseas Filipino workers . “Noong amin pong pinag-aaralan, may mga naidagdag po rito na numero ng mga OFWs na nag positibo at naidagdag sa datos natin,” Vergeire disclosed. “Hindi naman natin sinasabi na this is purely OFWs, nanggagaling pa rin po ito sa iba’t-ibang lugar sa ating bansa,” she added.

Globally, the novel coronavirus or Sars-CoV-2 has infected more than 5.4 million people, including 343,514 who had died as of May 26.
